From Monday the 12th until Wednesday the 14th of April, the CQS Group T Racing Team has settled in the testing area of our partner Dietz Motoren in Stuttgart, Germany. Dietz Motoren, specialized in the production of electric motors and ventilation systems also has a large testing area for all kinds of electric motors and applications.

A couple of weeks ago our motor rotated for the first time thanks to the motor controller of PsiControl. These tests were without load. We also have to perform real tests on the motor, tests with specific loads. These kinds of tests are not something you can execute at home in your own garage but you need a proper location with the appropriate equipment and expertise. Dietz Motoren offered us the opportunity to make use of their facilities during three entire days.

We could start the mounting on the test stand on Monday morning and this process immediately was the most exciting moment of the testing period. A test stand like ours consists of a lot of electronics and connections so the motor refused to start for a while but once we solved this problem, we could begin the first measurements! During the further progress we first learned how to use the torque control and hereafter we executed the first part of power tests. On Tuesday we began working early with the second part of the tests: power-, torque- and vibration tests.

It is important that we perform these vibration tests because Switched Reluctance Motors are known for their notable vibrations. For measuring and processing these vibrations we used hardware and the software package Test.Xpress of LMS International. LMS has made this system and corresponding equipment available for us and especially for the fulfillment of the vibration analysis we received assistance of a professional from LMS.

After this vibration analysis, the tests were done on Wednesday morning we got the time to clean up the test stand. Thanks to the assistance of Dietz Motoren, PsiControl and LMS International, this first series of tests was a success! We can already state that we are very satisfied about the test results, the motor complies in all aspects to our expectations.
